Insurance Coverage for Your Wig: One Important Tip

When speaking with your doctor or insurance provider, always use the term "cranial prosthesis" — never "wig." Insurance companies often deny wig coverage as cosmetic, but a cranial prosthesis is recognized as durable medical equipment. Ask your oncologist for a formal prescription with the appropriate diagnosis codes before making any purchase.

Ask your oncology team if they have a social worker or patient navigator on staff — they are trained specifically to help you file insurance claims and locate financial resources. You do not have to navigate the paperwork alone.

Ready to Find Your Crown?

Before you purchase any wig, try it on virtually from the comfort of your own home. No appointment, no pressure, no judgment — just you and your reflection.
